Senior Technical Project Manager

Senior Technical Project Manager
Global Microsoft 365 Transformation
Remote – Candidates Must be UK Based
Salary: Up to £80,000

Are you an experienced Senior Project Manager who has successfully delivered large-scale Microsoft 365 migrations or tenant consolidation programmes?

Can you identify the risks and dependencies that may sit between different technical workstreams?

Are you confident managing senior stakeholders across multiple organisations, countries and time zones?

We are recruiting for a growing technology consultancy delivering complex Microsoft, cloud, infrastructure and cybersecurity services to major organisations in the UK and internationally. They are looking for a Senior Technical Project Manager to lead an important global Microsoft 365 transformation programme.

The project will involve consolidating multiple Microsoft 365 tenants, companies, user structures, applications and document management environments into one secure and scalable platform. This is a technically complex programme with multiple interconnected workstreams. Identity, devices, applications, data, security and document access will all need to be carefully sequenced to ensure changes made in one area do not cause problems elsewhere.

You will act as the central point of contact, coordinating client stakeholders, architects, consultants, engineers and other subject matter experts. Although this is not a hands-on engineering role, you must understand the Microsoft 365 environment well enough to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions and identify risks or dependencies that technical specialists working within individual areas may overlook.

Excellent communication will be essential. You will be working with stakeholders across different companies, cultures and time zones, including the UK, North America and Asia. You will need to bring people together around a clear vision, negotiate competing priorities and maintain confidence when delivery becomes challenging.

You will be supported by a Project Coordinator, allowing you to remain focused on governance, stakeholder management, risk, decision-making and successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the Microsoft 365 consolidation programme from planning through to implementation, transition and closure.
• Develop and maintain a clear programme plan covering scope, milestones, sequencing, resources, dependencies, budgets and timescales.
• Coordinate technical workstreams across Microsoft 365, identity, devices, applications, data, security and document management.
• Identify cross-workstream dependencies and ensure migration activities take place in the correct order.
• Establish strong governance, including clear ownership, decision-making routes and escalation processes.
• Maintain accurate programme plans, RAID logs, dependency tracking, decisions and senior-level reporting.
• Identify risks, delays and resource constraints early and take corrective action.
• Challenge assumptions and ensure the wider impact of technical decisions is properly considered.
• Act as the main point of contact for senior client stakeholders throughout the programme.
• Lead steering groups, programme meetings, workshops and executive updates.
• Translate complex technical information into clear business language.
• Align stakeholders across different companies, priorities and ways of working.
• Manage expectations and communicate difficult messages promptly and professionally.
• Negotiate priorities, scope, resources, sequencing and delivery dates.
• Challenge unrealistic expectations in a constructive and commercially aware way.
• Maintain control of scope, budget, resources and change requests.
• Hold internal and external teams accountable for agreed actions and milestones.
• Build commitment from technical teams rather than simply imposing deadlines.
• Ensure the completed programme is successfully transitioned into support or managed services.

Essential Experience
To be considered, you will need:
• Significant experience delivering large and technically complex transformation programmes.
• Previous responsibility for a major Microsoft 365 migration, tenant consolidation or similar enterprise technology programme.
• Strong understanding of the Microsoft 365 technology landscape.
• Experience coordinating multiple interconnected technical workstreams.
• An understanding of migration sequencing, systems integration and technical dependencies.
• Strong programme governance, risk management, planning and change-control experience.
• Experience managing scope, budgets, resources and major milestones.
• Strong client-facing experience with large organisations and senior stakeholders.
• Experience working with architects, consultants, engineers and subject matter experts.
• Excellent negotiation, influencing and conflict-resolution skills.
• The confidence to challenge clients and technical specialists when required.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with geographically dispersed teams and stakeholders.

Relevant Technology Experience
Your experience is likely to include several of the following:
• Microsoft 365 tenant migrations and consolidation
• Microsoft Entra ID and identity transformation
• Microsoft Intune
• Mobile Device Management and Mobile Application Management
• Microsoft Defender technologies
• Power Platform and Power BI
• Document management and information governance
• Modern workplace and endpoint transformation
• Application and data migrations
• Infrastructure or cloud transformation
• Security and compliance programmes

You do not need to be an expert in every technology. However, you must have sufficient technical understanding to recognise dependencies, ask informed questions and work credibly with technical specialists.

Desirable Experience
• Experience working within a technology consultancy, managed service provider or professional services organisation.
• Delivery of enterprise-level programmes for major or regulated organisations.
• Experience within banking, financial services, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications or another regulated sector.
• Experience working with stakeholders in North America or Asia.
• Familiarity with both Waterfall and Agile delivery approaches.
• Experience using Microsoft Project, Azure DevOps, Jira, Power BI or similar tools.
• A recognised qualification such as PRINCE2, APM, PMP or AgilePM.
The Person
This role will suit someone who is:
• Highly organised, dependable and focused on delivery.
• Technically curious and willing to ask questions.
• Confident and credible with senior stakeholders.
• Skilled at identifying risks and dependencies that others may miss.
• A strong negotiator who can resolve competing priorities.
• Firm and decisive without becoming abrasive.
• Calm and solutions-focused when delivery comes under pressure.
• Collaborative and able to bring technical teams with them.
• Commercially astute and alert to scope creep.
• Innovative, energetic and interested in improving how projects are delivered.
• Ambitious and keen to take on greater responsibility as the consultancy grows.
You may currently work within a large enterprise and feel restricted by a narrowly defined role. Alternatively, you may already work for a consultancy or MSP delivering complex programmes for enterprise clients. The important thing is that you have successfully managed major technology migrations and have the technical understanding, judgement and communication skills to lead a critical global programme.

The Opportunity
Although the immediate priority will be the Microsoft 365 consolidation programme, this is intended to be a long-term appointment.
The consultancy is growing and delivering increasingly complex services to major international clients. You will have the opportunity to lead future transformation programmes, improve project delivery processes and help shape the organisation’s wider project services capability.
